Evidence of Local Unrest

Border Problems

There is little on show in the Angarth Museum which deals with the prolonged period of local unrest in the 1980s and early 1990s. It is too early to consider whether there will yet again be a return to the almost medieval-era series of invasions and raids by both English and Scottish parties.

There was an exhibition about this period planned in 2007 but it was cancelled due to funding problems which may well have been of a more political nature. However, some of the items planned for the exhibition are still in the museum archive and are now on show here for the first time. There is an ordinary brick, which was one of many thrown at police at a disturbance in July 1988, which has now been preserved by a local collector.
